Height-Adjustable Side Table – oval wood-effect top, slim steel stem, sofa or bed

A small table that comes to you, rather than leaving your mug on the floor beside the sofa.

A coffee table is usually just out of reach, and balancing a laptop or a plate on your knees gets old quickly. This side table has a flat base that slides underneath a sofa, armchair or bed, so the oval top sits right over your lap. The steel stem adjusts in height to line up with a sofa arm, a mattress or a desk chair. When you are done, it pushes back against the wall and takes up very little floor space.

Where this adjustable table proves handy

• Slide-under base: the low, flat foot fits beneath most sofas and beds, bringing the top over the seat.
• Adjustable height: raise or lower the stem to suit a sofa, a bed or a chair.
• Oval top: room for a laptop, a book and a cup, with rounded corners that are kind to knees.
• Slim footprint: a single stem keeps it visually light in a small living room or bedroom.
• Two finishes: warm walnut tones or plain black.
